Some people choose volumetric feeders for continuous feeding. Volumetric feeders are used in continuous feeding when there is a consistent bulk density of the material fed, or where high accuracy feeding rates are not required. The final discharge rate is determined by a constant feeder speed and is not controlled by data feedback from the process.
The actual amount of material delivered in the feeding process can vary over time since continuous feeders cannot detect or adjust changes in the material's bulk density. If you have high accuracy requirements, we do not recommend volumetric feeders for continuous feeding.
If you have rigorous accuracy requirements, gravimetric feeders are optimal for the continuous feeding process. There are two main types of gravimetric feeders: loss-in-weight feeders and weigh-belt feeders. Gravimetric feeders have the capability to detect and record moment-by-moment feeder performance during the continuous feeding process.
Gravimetric screw feeder provides accurate feed rates and immediately alert the operator if there are any interruptions in material flow. Gravimetric feeders offer moment-by-moment data, which helps achieve appropriate process control.
